How We Select Our Donors

Every Detail is Important for Us in Donor Selection

When selecting our donors, we follow the principle of "healthy donors" rather than solely considering the quantity and quality of eggs/sperm. We are aware of the sensitivity of our donation patients and recognize that the donor selection process is a crucial stage for them. Therefore, as British Cyprus IVF Hospital, we offer services that are not commonly provided in many IVF centers to meet their needs and expectations.

100% Privacy Policy

We strictly maintain the confidentiality of your information. Donors do not have access to your personal details, and there is no communication between you and the donor.

The donor is unaware of the specific couple they are matched with, eliminating any possibility of contacting you at any time. Donors make their donation to the institution, so they never have access to any personal information.

By law, our egg donors in Cyprus must remain anonymous, and their identity is completely confidential. However, certain details regarding their physical and personality traits can be shared with the patient.

We source our sperm donors from certified banks with distribution capabilities such as Cryos or European Bank. When selecting sperm, you can choose the most suitable one based on detailed information provided through the certificates.

Safe and Easy Treatment Process with Digital Tracking System

Donor selection is of great importance to us, which is why we have developed a specialized software to track the entire process. With our hospital's dedicated digital system, we can quickly find suitable matches and monitor the egg quality of our donors.

At British Cyprus IVF Hospital, we allocate a significant portion of our investments to digitalization. Our treatment processes, data tracking and storage, donor information, and many other aspects are managed through digital records. These records are securely encrypted and accessible only to authorized users.

We Have The Largest Healthy Donor Pool

One of the key factors that sets us apart is the diversity of our donors. Being the first center established in Cyprus and having a 27-year history, we have the most extensive and diverse donor pool, allowing you to choose according to physical characteristics, psychological traits, educational background, ethnic origin, and more. We take pride in offering the strongest donor database in terms of variety and quantity, enabling you to select donors according to your preferences.

How Do We Select Our Egg Donors?

We not only conduct general health screenings for our donors but also provide comprehensive genetic carrier screening tests for conditions such as karyotype abnormalities, cystic fibrosis, thalassemia, SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), DMD (Duchenne muscular dystrophy), Fragile X, and more. We are the only hospital in Cyprus that offers this detailed genetic carrier screening for our donors.

We have a diverse pool of donors from different ethnic backgrounds, making us the hospital with the largest health donor pool in Cyprus. Thanks to our extensive donor pool, we can quickly find a suitable match for you.

We track the egg performance of our donors using our specialized software.

We provide you with a wide range of donors to choose from, considering various aspects such as physical attributes, mental well-being, educational background, and ethnic background.

We carefully select our donors based not only on their medical characteristics but also on their socio-cultural features, professions, physical appearances, and personal lives. We have strict criteria and screening processes in place to ensure the highest standards when accepting donors.

1- Step
General Selection and Evaluation

In egg donation treatments, potential donors are evaluated primarily for their ability to achieve high pregnancy success rates in the treatment. At this stage, it is legally required for the donor to be between the ages of 18 and 30. Other criteria for consideration include having no general health problems, complaints, or bad habits, having a stable mental disposition, and being able to comply with the instructions given during the treatment. If these criteria are met, the donor can proceed to the next stage.

2- Step
Screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections and Serological Examination

As per the guidelines of reputable international reproductive medical associations, it is essential to routinely examine donors for diseases that can be transmitted through blood or sexual contact (such as HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, etc.) in donation treatments. Only candidates who do not pose a risk are evaluated as potential donors. Accordingly, all examinations on donors are conducted in our center to adhere to these guidelines.

3- Strp
Medical Examination and Evaluation

In the second stage, candidates who meet the general selection criteria undergo detailed questioning and examinations regarding their reproductive health and overall systemic conditions. The presence of conditions that may negatively affect the treatment process, such as cysts, fibroids, polyps, etc., is examined, and necessary differentiations are made.

4- Step
Genetic Evaluation

At this stage, donor candidates undergo general routine tests (such as karyotype analysis, cystic fibrosis, thalassemia carrier tests, etc.) to screen for any chromosomal or genetic abnormalities that may be present at significant rates in the population. These tests determine whether the candidates carry any disorders at the chromosomal or genetic level and assess the likelihood of transmitting such risks to the offspring.

5- Step
Evaluation Based on Physical/Mental/Educational etc. Attributes

A candidate who has successfully passed the mentioned evaluations and tests and has been deemed suitable for treatment undergoes a detailed questioning process at this stage, considering specific physical attributes (height, weight, hair color, eye color, body type, athletic activities), mental characteristics (active, outgoing, curious, enthusiastic, positive, hobbies), educational background (completed university/graduate education), and similar criteria. Each parameter questioned at this stage is listed in a way that allows the recipient to screen and choose a suitable donor according to their preferences.

How Do We Select Our Sperm Donors?

In sperm donation treatments, according to the current legal regulations of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, our center only uses certified sperm samples obtained from licensed sperm banks operating abroad. British Cyprus IVF Hospital prefers banks with quality certifications based on strict rules brought by years of experience when selecting sperm banks.

We can see on the certifications that screening is performed for donors regarding infectious diseases that can be transmitted through sperm and genetic diseases that can cause serious health problems in the child. Screening tests cover a wide range of infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV (AIDS), Syphilis, Cytomegalovirus, Chlamydia, as well as genetically transmitted diseases like Cystic Fibrosis, Thalassemia (Mediterranean Anemia), and karyotype (chromosome) analysis.

Although we have a stock of sperm samples suitable for various ethnic backgrounds and blood types, if the patient wishes, they can make their own selection from the bank and have that specific sperm brought for their treatment.
